Apologies for the lack of posts recently, I've been incredibly busy at work as we have a new show under way, Blood Wedding, but I'm back on track now!
So it was an exciting day at work today. I'm going to be in the paper! A journalist from a Dundee newspaper callled The Courier came to interview me for their business section. I was asked if the paper could do a piece on how I came to have a career in costume, and of course I said yes! Anything to try get people sewing and I will do it. For me sewing isn't just a handy skill to have, it has changed my life! Having the knowledge to tweak, alter and create clothing gives me fantastic freedom. I never have to worry about wearing the same thing as someone else, and instead of having a wardrobe that changes monthly with the fashions, I instead can create classic pieces of clothing that fit me perfectly and stand the test of time. (And lets face it on top of it all it's a great ego boost, when someone says to you, 'I love your dress/top/etc, where did you get it from?' and you can reply, 'why thank you, I made it!').
As well as having a fantastic wardrobe you can transfer your sewing skills to soft furnishings for your home, or perhaps some cute accessories. So your whole life can be full of your fantastic creations!!
I don't know about any one else but it is freezing here in Dundee, however as you all know, until January 1st 2016 I am not allowed to purchase a single item of clothing, not even a snuggly jumper to warm my cockles! Fear not though, I am currently drafting my new blog post where I will talk all about how you can make, an easy peasy, super quick, cosy, fleece jumper!
Until then, keep warm and keep out the shops (unless it's a fabric shop)!
