Today is the first ever day of my blog! And for those of you who have have a read my A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME section, you will know that I am on a mission this year to not buy a single item of clothing (well except pants and socks)! I'm not going to lie it's only January, and it has already been a struggle. Even on my walk to work, I'm bombarded with SALE signs in shop windows tempting me in to buy cheap clothes that I don't need, and will probably only wear a couple of times. But I'm staying strong.
To fight of the shopping urges I decided to make my self a basic tartan tunic dress with an exposed metal zip all the way down the front. (Currently major love for metal zips). As a pattern cutter, I rarely spend money on pre made patterns, and I love wearing something unique, that has come from my mind, so I drafted the dress for my pattern from a basic bodice block that I altered to suit the fit and style that I was looking for (I will go into how to draft a basic bodic in a future post).
The exposed metal zip down the front on the edge I feel gives it an edgy and on trend feel as well as being functioning.
This is not the first time I have made a dress of this style. In the MY MAKES section of my site you will find an image of me in a red, white and blue stripy Jersey dress also with the same zip feature.
Don't be afraid once you've found a style or shape that suits you to just run with it. Make different versions of it in different fabrics. Maybe try a version with sleeves or a version without? I plan on filling my wardrobe with many more of these Zip dresses, and when I am properly up and running I will create a digital version of this pattern so you can all try make a version of your own at home.
But until next time, I shall keep out the shops and keep sewing.
